Deepti Gupta
Deepti Gupta is a disciple of Guru Munna Shukla, renowned guru of the Lucknow Gharana. She has worked with Kalashram, the Kathak Academy of Pt. Birju Maharaj. She has also been lecturing at Kathak Kendra, National Instiute of Kathak, New Delhi. A critically acclaimed Canadian choreographer with groundbreaking contemporary works in Kathak and Chhau, she studied with
honoured choreography guru, Dr. Maya Rao. Deepti’s creations have been presented across Canada, at the Canada Dance Festival and Kalanidhi Festival as well as in India and United States. Deepti holds an MA in Dance from York University, Toronto. Her academic research includes the teaching of classical Indian dance in Diaspora communities as well as therapeutic benefits of
Indian dance. She is artistic director of Arzoo Dance Theatre, an organization dedicated to creating new works in dance that transcend geographical and cultural boundaries. She has received a Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Costume Design.

ARZOO DANCE THEATRE
Arzoo Dance Theatre is the vision of dancer, choreographer Deepti Gupta. It is a professional dance company creating and presenting contemporary dance theatre works using a variety of dance forms from east and west. It seeks a new choreographic voice that blends cultural aesthetics, ancient knowledge and current practices. Through its vision Arzoo provides a forum for experimentation and creativity for dancers, musicians and other artists from culturally diverse backgrounds and seeks to invigorate the practice of dance and music through workshops, demonstrations and performances
